Surface Water

Protecting our lakes, rivers, streams, and wetlands is a vital part of maintaining the health of the Snake River Watershed and the communities that depend on it.

Surface water resources are not only critical for recreation, wildlife habitat, and scenic beauty — they also play an important role in flood control, groundwater recharge, and long-term water quality. Local land use, erosion, and runoff can all affect the health of these systems. Through our Watershed-Based Implementation Funding (WBIF) grant, Kanabec SWCD offers cost-share assistance to support on-the-ground conservation practices that help protect and improve surface water quality across the region.

We work with landowners, agricultural producers, and other partners to implement projects that reduce sediment, control erosion, filter runoff, and restore natural hydrology. Whether you live along a lake, farm near a stream, or have a wetland on your property, we may be able to help.

Explore Cost-Share Opportunities:

  • Lakes – Buffer plantings, shoreline stabilization, runoff control
  • Rivers and Streams – Streambank protection, erosion control, riparian restoration
  • Wetlands – Restoration, enhancement, and reconnection of wetland areas
  • Urban Stormwater - Rain gardens, infiltration basins, curb cut redirection
