Wildlife Tree Planting on Public Lands
Kanabec SWCD completes tree planting habitat enhancement

In order to provide enhanced wildlife habitat, the District completed a DNR-funded project to plant hundreds of fruiting trees and shrubs on public land in Kanabec County. Labor was provided by SWCD employees and a crew from the Conservation Corps of Iowa & Minnesota. Planting locations included the Mille Lacs Wildlife Management Area in Ann Lake Township and District-owned land in Grass Lake Township. The species planted were selected for their appeal to a variety of wildlife, including deer, grouse, turkeys, and a variety of songbirds.
